Choose the optimum screen size for you.

The size of the LCD TV screen that you finally choose will determine the quality of your viewing experience.

Picture quality can be lost on larger screen sizes when displaying standard terrestrial or satellite television broadcasts. We therefore recommend that you actually see the picture quality for the screen size that you are considering prior to making any purchase. However, be aware that many TV showrooms deliberately show DVD and HD programmes on their LCD TV screens so they look at the best. Do therefore ask to see a normal television picture.

High Definition broadcasting services are currently being provided by Sky and Telewest on a subscription basis (learn more about HD TV ).

Most people buy the largest screen they can afford, however there is an optimum screen size for any viewing distance.

The formula for calculating the optimum screen size is dependent on the minimum and maximum viewing distance from the television.

We have simplified this calculation by creating our own visual guide which is displayed on this page.
